Information event for victims of the Christmas market attack

Many university members have been directly or indirectly affected by the attack on the Magdeburg Christmas market and are still suffering from physical and/or psychological impairments. The Psychotherapeutic University Outpatient Clinic and the Psychosocial Student Counseling Service (PSB) of OVGU will be holding an online information event on January 17, 2025 from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. on how to deal with psychological stress in the context of the attack. The event is open to all university members. Participation is only possible via your personal university account:

Extended opening hours of the University Library during the examination period

The University Library will have extended opening hours during the examination period. From January 26 to February 16, 2025, the University Library will be open Monday to Friday from 8 am to 9 pm and Saturdays from 10 am to 6 pm as well as Sundays from 10 am to 6 pm in addition to the regular opening hours. Please let your students know about this. 

Companies support students with a scholarship

Another tip for your students: Three regional companies support university students with at least 300 euros per month. The aim is to bring young talent into contact with suitable employers at an early stage. The application phase for the company scholarship runs until February 9, 2025.

Curiosity led her into science

Mechanical engineer Dr.-Ing. Julia Becker received the Karin Witte Prize for Female Scientists 2024 for her research in the field of high-temperature materials used in stationary gas turbines and high-pressure turbines in aircraft engines.

Sustainability meets sport

Three of the six tennis courts behind sports hall 3 were renovated and handed over for use shortly before Christmas in the presence of the Minister. In addition to an infiltration system for rainwater and a roof with LED lighting, there is also a photovoltaic system for 150,000 kWh of clean electricity per year.

What kind of work do people need?

The Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg 2025 Research Prize was awarded to social scientist Prof. Heike Ohlbrecht. Her research focuses on the relationship between the world of work and health.
